Why Coaching, and Why Now
Looking back, I most likely grew up in a home where I lived with a coach. My mom was a teacher who loved giving us the chance to be curious and explore life through the lens of a child. She worked two jobs to make ends meet. My dad was a community servant, raised on a farm, didn't like college, and took the longer path, starting as a janitor at the telephone company his father worked for. He stayed faithful to provide for our family, he learned to be a lineman for a large telephone company, and for 42 years worked his way up into leadership for that organization.
From a very early age, my parents planted something in me, the belief that everyone deserves an opportunity. And most importantly, if someone is willing and can find the strength to press forward, pay attention to their outcome. It is why I enjoy being surrounded by creative, innovative, wise, and successful people. It inspires me to be better than the day before.
So as a coach, I am curious by nature. Futuristic by design. Strategic in how I think. And deeply, deeply committed to the people around me — my husband, my boys, my family, my friends, and the people I work alongside. I realize having real, human-to-human moments, even the ones that sometimes shake you to your core, shape our becoming. I finally get it! Growth is not always comfortable. Showing up takes courage. And the right support at the right time can change everything.
Coaching is not just what I do. It is who I was raised to be.
What I Know as a Coach
Coaching only works when there is genuine trust. Ethics is my foundation. It is the first competency we learn as coaches, and it is the space where we figure out if we are the right fit for each other. The right fit for the right reason matters more than almost anything else in this work. I learned that the hard way. Once, early in my career, I felt forced into a coaching engagement that was wrong from the start. It was a nightmare. I was a novice, and I learned from that experience to say no when no is the honest answer. I will never make that mistake again, for myself or for a client.
I have had clients grow beyond my coaching style and benefit from working with another coach. I have had clients work with me and then begin seeing a therapist. I have had clients come to me from therapy. Every one of those transitions was the right thing. We are dealing with human life here. Every client deserves the best for what their needs are, and someone they can trust and dive deep with. If we are not the right fit, I will try to help you find one who is.
